"Being an artist isn’t just a “right brain” activity---you must use ALL of your brain, body and spirit to create. When the creation is done, the whole is much more than the sum of its parts… and so is the creator." - Lyrae Perry

Australia 2015

Departing May 3rd for Australia 2015 trip! This is going to be a blast.  Looking forward to visiting with my friends in “Oz”, enjoying the scenery and painting on location.  Meeting with other artists and visiting the Great Barrier Reef—one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Every part of the reef is different…it covers about 1200 miles from one end to the other.  Even though the reef is in the same ocean and connected, it’s varies a great deal from end to end.  On my first trip I visited Moore Reef, which looks like the most gorgeous and gigantic salt water tank with a huge variety of colorful corals and fish.  staghorn corals

On another trip to a different part of the reef, there were only large stag horn corals covering the ocean floor for as far as I could see.    The stag horn corals were probably five feet tall and you could not see the sand.    It looked like a solid spiny carpet in blue, purple, brown, and green.   Colorful parrot fish were swimming in and out of the spikes.  It was pretty, but in an odd way, it felt desolate.  The stag horn corals reminded me of the thorny bushes surrounding the tower in the fairy tale about Rapunzel.

Here’s some cool info on stag horn corals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staghorn_coral

This trip, I’ll be visiting another interesting part of the Great Barrier Reef and I’m sure I’ll be surprised at what I’ll find…there’s always something new and interesting.

I’m busy packing and making sure I have all the adapters and voltage regulators to keep electronics running so I can post photos and updates.  Stay tuned for some cool stuff!

Counting down on Australia 2015 trip…only two days to go!
